Club History
David Humphrey Scott, Euclid Beach Park enthusiast, founded Euclid Beach Park Nuts in mid-1989, after the book, "Euclid Beach Park is Closed for the Season", showed that there was strong interest in Euclid Beach Park. After giving presentations in and around Cleveland, David started having monthly meetings at his residence to share memories and learn more about the park. As interest increased, he started a fan club, which grew to include over 1000 "Nuts". David's daughter and daughter-in-law suggested publishing a newsletter to keep members informed of club activities and updates; the newsletter continues to be published on a quarterly basis.
EBPN held memorabilia shows during the last weekend of September, which coincided with the park's closing, at Euclid Square Mall. Every year the show grew with displays and attendance till the mall closed. In addition, EBPN has held memorabilia shows at other venues, including Trolleyville U.S.A., a museum of old restored, operating trolley cars located in Columbia Station. In 1997 and in 1998.
For a few years EBPN set up a display at the old LaSalle Theater during the East 185th Street Festival. At the 2003 festival the ODNR Park Naturalist for Cleveland Lakefront State Park approached the Euclid Beach Park Nuts regarding an idea she had to highlight the history of the park area. She envisioned a small scale event with historical information and stories shared around the picnic tables of the pavillion. From the start it developed into much more.
