Euclid Beach Park Commemorative Sign Marker
In the Spring of 2011 as the Board of Directors of Euclid Beach Park Now (EBPN) began planning for the 7th annual "Remembering the Sights and Sounds of Euclid Beach Park", the idea of placing permanent markers throughout the area of the park to share photos and information about some of the larger attractions and points of interest in order to better promote its Mission Statement was discused. A committee of Collinwood supporters were asked to be on a committee to see this idea become a reality. The following provided time, talents, and expertise to this project: Cleveland City Councilman Michael Polenek, Mary Louise Jesek Daley and Elva Brodnick of the Collilnwood Nottingham Historical Society, Brian Friedman of Northeast Shores Development Corporation, Barb Clint and Sarah Gyorki, who are neighborhood advocates, and members of Euclid Beach Park Now. With Euclid Beach Park's Carousel undergoing restoration for placement within the History Center of the Western Reserve Historical Society, the committee decided that the first marker should pay tribute to the Carousel. The marker was dedicated on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the 7th annual "Remembering the Sights and Sounds of Euclid Beach Park". A raffle was conducted at the event to begin raising funds for the next marker which would be unveiled at the 8th annual event in 2012. Also, a survey was taken to poll event attendee's interest as to which attraction(s) should be the focus on the next marker.
Almost half of those who responded to the poll at the 2011 event selected a marker to highlight the three clustered roller coasters that were operating in the area the last day of the amusement park's operation; the Flying Turns, the Thriller, and the Racing Coaster. A survey was taken and a raffel held at the 2012 event for a marker which will be placed at the 2013 event.
